The Raspberry Pi Simpsons TV That Took the Internet by Storm!

Brandon Withrow’s mini TV that plays The Simpsons on a loop is simply delightful.

Brandon Withrow is a software designer with a passion for art, travel, and classic 90s television cartoons. With a background that includes innovative software design for companies like Airbnb as well as work on supremely moving animated storytelling, Brandon’s love of creating unique and innovative projects in clear. His latest project has taken the Internet by storm in the form of a miniature 3D printed television that continuously plays The Simpsons on a loop!

Brandon wanted to recreate the “always on” experience of watching classic television, where what you got when you switched the TV on was what you watched (in this case it’s all Simpsons, all the time).

The Simpsons family might have gotten a new flatscreen TV in 2009 when the episode intro subtly changed, but the classic boxy CRT TV is the most iconic image around and lends itself perfectly to a heaping helping of happy nostalgia.

The core of this incredible project is a Raspberry Pi Zero. Pi, often cited as the world’s smallest consumer computer, is a powerhouse for indie designers and developers, and in Brandon’s case it provided the base for his nostalgic recreation of a beloved classic. Combined with a 3D printed television set that looks just like the one that the Simpsons gather in front of before every episode, a bit of soldering, and a few lines of clever code, Brandon’s project is every nostalgic fan’s dream. And yes, in case you were wondering, it is a full functional TV, and that means sound as well — set one of these up on your desktop and you’re guaranteed to get in a lot of laughs and absolutely no work for the whole day (just like Homer!)

Brandon says that it takes him about 13 hours to build one of these little telvisions from start to finish, including the time it takes to 3D print the case on his Ender 3 Pro, and he offers a few additional upgrade options for even more epic TV realism if you’re looking for a challenge (such as ensuring gapless playback of episodes, adding transitions between episodes, and even inserting a little station logo in the bottom corner of the screen).

For those of you who think this is awesome but don’t feel up to making one from scratch, Brandon is offering a limited time raffle of ten mini-TVs, the proceeds of which will all go to a number of awesome charities. So, not only could you have the chance to own an iconic and working replica of television history, but you’ll also be helping make the world better at the same time! Note that these special raffle TVs don’t come pre-loaded with anything — you’ll have to load on your own content, but getting to personalize your mini-TV with your own shows is certain to be half the fun!

Brandon has undertaken a number of other super-cool projects as well, from a 360 VR camera, to a solar tracker, to an absolutely gorgeous van conversion. Check them all out on his website, and maybe get inspired to dive into some projects of your own!

If you’re like me, you don’t want to purchase most games while they’re at full price. I like finding new games, but the cost can quickly add up to an astronomical amount.

How to Temporarily Mute Notifications in Windows 10

We’ve all had that moment. You’re in a big meeting, or working hard, or maybe playing games with friends, and all of a sudden a notification pops up. Even small things can be big distractions when they’re unexpected, so make sure you’re never interrupted by an unwanted notification again.

If you’re wary about turning off notifications permanently, this guide will show you how to temporarily disable notifications when you know something important is coming up. If this was Windows 8, you would do this by by turning on a feature called “Quiet Hours.” For some odd reason Windows 10 did away with this feature, setting a standard Do Not Disturb (called “Focus Assist”) from 11pm to 7am. However, you can still edit this time frame by editing the registry.

Let’s get started!

regedit1regedit1

Open Start and type “regedit.” Alternatively, you can type “regedit” into the search function on your toolbar.

current versioncurrent version

Use the left toolbar to navigate to the “Current Version” folder in the Registry.

quiet hoursquiet hours

Create a new Key under Current Version and label it “Quiet Hours.”

two valuestwo values

Right click on the “Quiet Hours” Key you’ve just created, and click New > DWORD (32 bit) Value. Name the first value “EntryTime.” Create a second DWORD Value and name it “ExitTime.”

EntryTime will dictate the start of your quiet hours, while ExitTime will dictate the end of your quiet hours.

value timevalue time

Double click “EntryTime” to edit it, and make sure the “decimal” option is selected. In the value data box, enter the number of minutes after midnight you’d like your quiet hours to start (i.e. for 2am you’ll enter 120, for 3am > 180, and so on).

Double click “ExitTime” and make the same edits, once again noting how many minutes after midnight you’d like your quiet hours to end (8am=480, 9am=540, etc.).

Once you’ve entered the start and end times for your quiet hours, you’re free to close the Registry Editor! These changes will happen automatically, there’s no need to restart your PC.

Congratulations! You’ve now manually set your quiet hours to temporarily mute all notifications.

Add-ons for Google Forms

Make Google Forms work for you!

It might be a hot take, but Google Forms is one of the most versatile Google Workspace tools. However, it does lack customization and integration. This guide will go through add-ons for Google Forms that not only adds new fields, but enables users to get the most usability out of their surveys, forms, or even exams.

If you don’t know how to install an add-on for Google Workspace, check out our guide!

google forms addon formlimitergoogle forms addon formlimiter

★★★★☆ 4.4/5

To help those who manage multiple Google Forms, the formLimiter add-on makes it easy to stop allowing responses. While I think it’s something that should be already implemented into Google Workspace, this add-on automatically sets Google Forms to stop accepting responses after a specific condition is met. This could be a maximum number of responses, a specific date and time, or when a spreadsheet’s cell contains a specific value (which is perfect for online contests).

google forms addon form publishergoogle forms addon form publisher

★★★★☆ 4.6/5

Google Forms is used for a variety of data gathering tasks that mimic the uses of popular data management tools like QuickBooks or SurveyMonkey. The Form Publisher add-on lets you turn that data submission into more professional and easy to read documents. With Google Forms, documents are generated with each form submission. In Google Sheets, you can mass generate documents in bulk! Streamline business processes, so you spend more time on other tasks! Generate and send invoices, quotes, certificates, or any other document you can dream of. Plus, you can export to a PDF or to Microsoft Office products. There are a multitude of other features, so we highly recommend this add-on!

google forms addon quilgogoogle forms addon quilgo

★★★★☆ 4.4/5

If your profession requires you to proctor exams or skill assessments, you need this add-on. Quilgo turns your Google Form into a proper test by embedding a timer, allowing start and submission time tracking, and even make video snapshots of respondents. It allows for integration with other apps as well as exporting data for analysis.

google forms addon form rangergoogle forms addon form ranger

★★★☆☆ 3.6/5

Form Ranger allows you to autopopulate the choices in list, multiple choice, checkbox or grid question options from columns of data in any Google Sheet or Doctopus roster. It’s great for ensuring that form answers match values in an already existing database. It can be used for inventory items, expected attendees, or even workshop titles!

google forms addon autoproctorgoogle forms addon autoproctor

★★★★☆ 4.2/5

AutoProctor is an add-on that does more than you’d think. Not only does it add a countdown timer at the top of a form, but it also checks for cheating. It’s fully customizable so that proctors can maintain the integrity of a test without having to physically be near. Once the test duration time has ended, users will no longer be able to access the form. AutoProctor checks the user’s environment and actions for cheating, such as, detecting more than one face or opening up a different tab. It tracks each trigger and documents it so that it can be manually reviewed later. Each user is also assigned a Trust Score based on how many alerts they’ve received!

google forms addon form approvalsgoogle forms addon form approvals

★★★★☆ 4.7/5

This is a great add-on to use within an organization or with consulting work. Form Approvals allows for a form to send its information or data to specified users based on specific conditions. It also has the ability to set up automatic reminders and attach documents to the notifications. It’s perfect for those who need to gather information and send it through a pipeline!

google forms addon signaturegoogle forms addon signature

★★★★☆ 4.5/5

Another great add-on for businesses, Signature allows for users to sign a form. Instead of relying solely on an electronic signature, businesses or signees can be assured of authenticity by using a stylus or mouse to give a handwritten signature to any agreement. While you only get three free signatures a month, you can bulk buy 300 signatures for as low as $15/month!

google forms addon form directorgoogle forms addon form director

★★★★☆ 4.5/5

Form Director enables form creators to automate the information they’re collecting. It doesn’t just integrate with Google Sheets or email. Integrations include QuickBooks, Trello, Insightly, Slack, Hubspot, MailChimp and so many more. You can create to-do lists after a lead fills in their information, book meetings with clients, send new order information to a chat channel, or create a contact list in MailChimp!

google forms addon dynamic fieldsgoogle forms addon dynamic fields

★★★☆☆ 3.5/5

For organizations that use multiple forms with similar data, Dynamic Fields is a great addition to Google Forms. It imports selected answer values from a list so that they can be used for different question formats. This includes multiple-choice, drop-down, checkbox and grid, and can be pulled from different sources like Google Sheets, Contacts, Google Groups and more.

google forms addon choice removalgoogle forms addon choice removal

★★★☆☆ 3.7/5

For those that would like to use Google Forms to schedule meetings or appointments, Choice Removal is a handy add-on. Whether in a drop-down or multiple choice list, whenever a user submits their form, the item is then removed from possible answers for the next user. There’s even a helpful button that will restore all options with one click!

google forms addon form duplicatesgoogle forms addon form duplicates

★★★★☆ 4.4/5

When collecting a large amount of responses, it can be difficult to weed out duplicates. Form Duplicates is an add-on for Google Forms that lets you automatically find and delete duplicate responses by choosing form items. This is especially helpful for online contests that only allow one entry per person!

google forms addon formfacadegoogle forms addon formfacade

★★★★☆ 4.5/5

Formfacade modifies Google Forms so that they blend with websites and apps. Whether you want to embed them onto your website or inside an email, this add-on lets you match a form to your own branding. It’s supported by WordPress, Squarespace, Bootstrap and other content management systems, and you can even prefill the form when you embed it. It also allows you to analyze form sessions to see where users drop off using FullStory or Hotjar!

google forms addon form valuesgoogle forms addon form values
Oli Trussell

★★★☆☆ 3.2/5

Another add-on that allows you to insert pre-listed information to use in a form. Form Values is especially handy for the education field when you need to create a form with students, staff, rooms, or commonly used resources. Unlike similar add-ons, it lets you create the list within Google Forms to save for future use.

google forms addon advanced summary analyticsgoogle forms addon advanced summary analytics

★★★☆☆ 3.8/5

Whether you use Google Forms for feedback surveys or quizzes, a tool that lets you organize data is incredibly helpful. That’s where Advanced Summary comes in. Using filters, this add-on lets you isolate variables or segments and look at data charts in a way you want. You can summarize response data by any field that you collect, such as location, department, or age!

google forms addon advancedgoogle forms addon advanced

★★★★☆ 4.4/5

Interactive Forms is an add-on that connects with Google Slides. It enables you to create slide templates where data will be automatically placed inside your Slides project. You can specify where the form’s response will be positioned, and add images, tables, shapes and more. Each participant will have their own slide, which can be edited at any time!

google forms addon qr code generatorgoogle forms addon qr code generator

★★★☆☆ 3.9/5

One of the main issues with Google Workspace is the long web addresses that result from sharing a document or form link. One easy way around this is to use a QR code to enable an easy way for others to find your Google Form. QR Code Generator creates a high quality QR with the url to your form, making it simple for respondents or students to get where you want them to. You can even customize the QR code’s color, labels, positioning, and even add your brand’s logo!

google forms addon appsheetgoogle forms addon appsheet

★★★★☆ 4.2/5

For those that want to give their Google Forms a polish and appear more business-like, considering using the AppSheet add-on. What makes it stand out is how easy it is to set up a custom mobile app for your survey or form. You can customize it with different inputs like photos, signatures, GPS location, and scanned barcodes, bringing your form to a new level. Common uses are field service, incident reports, customer surveys, project management, and delivery tracking!

google forms addon world cloud generatorgoogle forms addon world cloud generator
World Cloud Generator

★★★☆☆ 3.2/5

This add-on allows you to create a word cloud visualization from not just Google Forms, but any Google Workspace application. Simply copy and paste text into the add-on’s sidebar and find out what words are used most frequently. This is perfect for those who collect feedback or customer surveys and want to visually show keywords to help support your data. You can even choose the design and style for the word cloud and remove any unwanted words!

google forms addon snipgoogle forms addon snip

★★★★☆ 4.4/5

Snip is an add-on for Google Forms that helps teachers or professionals turn worksheets or documents into digital forms. Users can crop and save sections of a digital document to their Google Drive and then insert them directly into Google Forms. Instead of recreating diagrams or charts, this add-on makes creating a Google Form quick and easy!

google forms addon form notificationsgoogle forms addon form notifications

★★★★☆ 4.1/5

While Google Forms does have a setting for email notifications, it lacks customization. The Form Notifications add-on allows users to automate and create email notifications not only for form administrators, but also for form respondents. Now you’ll be able to send your respondents a customized email to help you further your relationship with them.

google forms addon choice eliminator 2google forms addon choice eliminator 2

★★☆☆☆ 2.9/5

When you need an add-on that eliminates choices in a drop-down menu, Choice Eliminator 2 is the way to go. It’s great for letting respondents sign up for time slots or having a student choose a topic. It lets you restore eliminated choices and set the order of them as well!

google forms addon proof of certificate certify'emgoogle forms addon proof of certificate certify'em

★★★★☆ 4.6/5

If you’re a business that wants to empower its employees, but don’t have the funds to use an outside curriculum, consider adding Certify’em to your roster. Whether you want to set up onboarding training or test proficiency, this add-on provides a proof of certification PDF that is sent to anyone who passes the exam. You can choose from a variety of designed templates or use Google Slides to create your own! Each certificate is personalized and has a unique serial number, so you can keep track of who passed. Plus, if you create a spreadsheet for your form, you’ll also be able to automatically keep track of certificates. This add-on takes away most of the work for administrators, so you can focus on other things!

google forms addon chatbot formsgoogle forms addon chatbot forms

★★★★☆ 4.3/5

While this add-on is more cosmetic rather than functional, Chat-Forms converts a Google Form into a conversational chatbot. While the respondent may think they’re talking with an actual bot, what’s really happening is they’re filling out a form! Cat-Forms converts a Google Form into a conversational user interface (viewable over mobile and desktop) and replies are sent back to the original form. Rather than linking a person to a form, this will make it much easier to keep leads on a pipeline!

google forms addon form to calendargoogle forms addon form to calendar
New Addons

★★★☆☆ 3.7/5

Form to Calendar does exactly as you’d expect based on the name. This add-on connects a Google form to your Google Calendar so that users can schedule events or reservations with ease. It adds fields for start and end times, so that it seamlessly translates into Google Calendar.

google forms addon smartsheet integrationgoogle forms addon smartsheet integration
Smartsheet

★★★☆☆ 3.7/5

This is a great add-on for those that use Smartsheet, which helps automate business processes and procedures. Whether you’re using Google Forms for event registrations or survey responses, Smartsheet for Google Forms imports form responses right into Smartsheet to avoid having to deal with a third-party program or website. Even if you enable users to edit their Google Forms responses, those edits update automatically into those stored within Smartsheet!

google forms addon beep voice notesgoogle forms addon beep voice notes

★★★★☆ 4/5

This add-on inputs a unique feature: voice notes! Asking for feedback can be difficult when dealing with busy individuals. Voice notes take away the effort and allows users to communicate by voice, increasing response time and efficiency. While you can’t insert it into a Google Form question, users can place the link inside. It doesn’t just work in Google Forms, it also can work in Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides!

google forms addon surveymonkeygoogle forms addon surveymonkey

★★☆☆☆ 2.8/5

That’s right, even SurveyMonkey integrates into Google Forms. This add-on enables you to convert your Google Form into SurveyMonkey with over 15 question types, adds skip logic, and randomize questions. It allows you to add your own custom branding of logos, colors, URLs, and set up a custom thank you page! There’s even capabilities for real-time analytics, including data trends and text analysis!

google forms addon pios.iogoogle forms addon pios.io

★★★★☆ 4.5/5

When you need to add imagery to your forms, Pics.io is the way to go. When you need to keep track of custom graphics or brand images, Pics.io lets you insert designs directly into Forms!

google forms addon pdf buildergoogle forms addon pdf builder

★★★☆☆ 3.9/5

One of the downsides to using Google Forms for internal business processes is having to convert responses into a formatted PDF. This add-on enables users to turn their Google Form responses into a personalized PDF and even integrate it into other programs using Zapier! You can migrate from a Windows PC to a MacBook!
Aug 23, 2021
30 minutes

I just bought a new MacBook to use for my upcoming courses.I set it up, migrated my data, and began using it within the hour.

Setting up a new MacBook might take bit of time, but it really isn’t as difficult as it may seem. In fact, you can set up your MacBook in under 25 minutes.

However, migrating data can certainly take more time than that, though it depends on the amount of data being transferred amoung other things.

In this guide, I will show you how to efficiently transfer data from your Windows PC to your MacBook.

Migration Assistant preperation:

  • Make sure both of your devices are up to date.
  • Make sure both devices are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.

Note: Some of these steps may vary depending on your Windows PC, software versions, and other variables.

Nothing says good morning quite like a breakfast sandwich.

From the doughiness of the muffin to the eggs’ fluffiness to the cheese’s gooeyness, breakfast sandwiches are a great start to your morning.

But what if I told you you could skip the morning drive-through and have your breakfast sandwich, too.

I’m talking about homemade breakfast sandwiches that you can make, freeze, and enjoy any morning too busy to make breakfast.

Here is an easy, customizable, and delicious breakfast sandwich recipe.

This recipe will give you six sandwiches, but you can always double it to make a dozen because they’ll keep for a month in the freezer!

Now, grab your eggs. It’s time to learn how to make the best breakfast sandwiches.

Whisked eggs.Whisked eggs.

Preheat your over to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).

Spray your baking dish with cooking spray being careful to coat the sides, too.

Crack your eggs, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and cayenne pepper into a mixing bowl. Mix generously with a fork until combined. The more you mix, the fluffier your eggs will be.

Dice your red onions and spinach.

Mix in your diced red onion, feta cheese, and chopped spinach with your eggs. Once all of your ingredients are incorporated, pour them into your baking dish.

Bake your eggs for around 25 minutes or until the top starts to turn golden and brown.

Sausages cooking.Sausages cooking.

Place your sausages on a nonstick baking sheet and bake them for 5-10 minutes at 365 degrees F (190 degrees C).

You can also use bacon, ham, or any meat you please.

Remember: Have a separate timer for your eggs and your meat. While they can bake at the same temperature, they won’t bake for the same length of time.

Once you remove your sausage (or meat of choice) from the oven, place them to the side to cool.

Pro tip: You can also cook them on your stovetop if you want to cook them during the eggs!

English muffins.English muffins.

Once your eggs have finished cooking, turn your oven to broil. Allow it to heat up for at least 5 minutes.

Slice your English muffins in half and lay them with their inside-up on the baking sheet.

Broil them for 5-10 minutes, or until they reach desired toastiness.

Once you remove them from the oven, spread a thin layer of butter on each muffin.

Pro tip: Once your sausage has finished cooking, you can place it aside and use the same baking sheet for your English muffins. I’m all about minimizing the number of dishes you have to do at the end.

Sandwiches.Sandwiches.

While you’re preparing the individual parts of the breakfast sandwich, you’ll run into a few periods of downtime between baking and broiling. You can use that time to prepare your sandwich wrappers!

Start by cutting your parchment paper into roughly 8×8 inch squares. Since these don’t have to be precise, you can eyeball the size.

Dampen paper towels by running them underwater and ringing excess water from them once they’re completely saturated.

Lay one sheet of parchment paper down before layering it with one sheet of paper towel.

Repeat this six times.

English muffin variation.English muffin variation.

Now that you have everything cooked, you’re ready to assemble your sandwiches.

Carefully remove your egg from the pan and slice it into 6 squares, creating little egg patties.

On one side of your English muffin, set down your sliced cheese, one egg patty, and your sausage. Top with the other side of your English muffin.

Another breakfast sandwich.Another breakfast sandwich.

Wrap your sandwiches first in the damp paper towel. Then wrap the parchment around the paper towel. Repeat this until each sandwich is individually wrapped before you store them in an airtight container.

These will keep up to one month in the freezer, but we both know they won’t last that long!

Breakfast sandwiches.Breakfast sandwiches.

When you’re ready to enjoy your creation, remove one sandwich from the freezer and remove the parchment paper, leaving the paper towel on.

On a microwave safe plate, microwave your sandwich on high for 2-3 minutes. Allow the sandwich to cool 1 minute before enjoying!

How to Offload Unused Apps on iOS

Offload all those unwanted, unused apps in seconds!
Aug 21, 2021

Apps are one of the biggest culprits for storage usage on iOS devices. Because apps tend to increase in size as they gather more and more data on your iPhone over time, iPhone user’s most used apps will tend to take up the most space, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t plenty of apps on their iOS devices that aren’t taking up unecessary space.

There are many apps, both built-in and third-party, that take up large amounts of space on iOS user’s devices. Luckily, it’s easy to offload apps to clear up storage space on an iOS device or prevent future storage issues. In fact, there are three ways to offload unecessary apps on an iOS device.

In this guide, I show you how to offload apps on your iPhone, or other iOS devices, three ways. Let’s get started!

Note: Offloading and deleting apps are two different processes with different results. By offloading an app iOS users can avoid losing all their app data. If you want to know how to delete an app on an iOS device, you can use this guide.

Automatically Offload AppsAutomatically Offload Apps

Automatically offloading apps is the easiest way to offload apps on your iOS product. However, it comes with a few setbacks. For example, since the iPhone or other iOS product is offloading apps automatically, it may offload apps you don’t want it to offload. Though it offloads apps you’re not regularly using, that doesn’t mean it’s offloading apps you want it to offload or that you no longer need.

Luckily, the apps are offloaded, not deleted, which removes all data from the device. Remember, offloading is a safer way to save space taken up by your apps versus deleting them.

How to automatically offload apps:

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Click “App Store.”
  3. Turn on “offload unused apps” by clicking the toggle to the right hand side.

If you want to determine exactly how much space you will be saving when turning the automatic offloading feature on, consider trying the alternate option below.

Automatically Offload AppsAutomatically Offload Apps

Alternatively:

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Click “general.”
  3. Click “iPhone storage.” If you are using another iOS device, it may say “iPod storage” or “iPad storage.”
  4. Click “enable” next to offload unused apps.

You’ll notice that it shows you how many MB or GB will be saved with automatically offloading apps.

Manually Offload AppsManually Offload Apps

If you prefer not to automatically offload apps, you can choose to manually offload individual apps. By offloading individual apps, you can avoid your iPhone offloading apps you would prefer it didn’t. The only down side is that it may take more time since you have to offload each app that you wish to offload manually.

How to offload apps:

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Click “general.”
  3. Click “iPhone storage.” If you are using another iOS device, it may say “iPod storage” or “iPad storage.”
  4. Take a look at the apps. The list is in order from top to bottom based on use and size. So, the higher the app on the list, the more space it’s taking on your product, but the more often it’s being used.
  5. Click an app you would like to offload. Note the size of the app versus the size of the app data. The app data is the amount of data that will remain on your device.
  6. Click “offload app.”
  7. Click “offload app” again.

Continue these steps until you have enough storage on your iOS device to do all the things you love!

Customize do not disturb to your liking!

Do not disturb, often referred to as DND, is a handy feature that allows iPhone users to stay focused on their work, movie, or to-do lists by silencing all notifications on their iPhone while their screen is locked and the do not disturb feature is on or is scheduled. Do not disturb will send calls directly to voicemail so that callers are not interrupting an iPhone user’s workflow. All iMessages, text messages, or other notifications are simply silenced so that they aren’t alerted about them. However, once they open their iPhone, they will be able to see the missed calls, messages, and notifications. Do not disturb is easy to turn on, create a DND schedule, or turn off when iPhone users are ready to receive their notifications and calls. There are also other customizable settings within do not disturb, allowing iPhone users to make DND their own, so that is convenient for their particular uses. In this guide, I cover how to turn do not disturb on, how to create a do not disturb schedule, how to select and turn on specific DND settings, and how to turn on do not disturb while driving.
