To save a PDF as a Google Doc, it must first be converted via Google Drive. We’re actually impressed by how easily PDFs become Google Docs and how much of the formatting gets retained. Once it’s a Google Doc, then it will be saved as one, too.

We’ll walk you through the steps to save a PDF as a Google Doc.

Once you select the PDF file, it will be opened automatically in Google Drive. If it does not automatically open, ensure that you allow pop-ups from Google Docs.

Click Open in Google Docs at the top of the page to have the PDF converted and opened in Google Docs. This may take a minute or two, depending on the length of the document.

file name in google docsfile name in google docs

Now that your PDF is open in Google Docs, it is automatically saved in Google Docs under the file name of the PDF.

Change Google Doc file name

You may want a different file name for the PDF that you converted to a Google Doc. If so, simply click the file name on the top-left and edit it how you wish.

Fix formatting issues from conversion

While Google does a great job converting PDFs to Google Docs, it’s still not a perfect process. You should go through your new Google Doc to ensure that the formatting is the way you want it. You may find that you need to change the margins, double-space, or make other changes to the Google Doc.

How to Double-Space in Google Docs

What’s better than one space…that’s right.

Double-spacing a document in Google Docs makes your document easier to read and allows for some space for notes and comments. Most essays that you need to write for school should be double-spaced, as well as MLA and APA-style papers.

In this guide, we’ll show you how to double-space any document in Google Docs.

What is double-spacing?

When you double-space a document, you add an extra line of space between each line of text. You can double-space on all word processing programs, including Google Docs.

To double-space text you’ve already written, simply highlight the text, then click the “Line spacing” button in the toolbar (shown above), and select “Double.”

Once you set your Google Doc to double-spacing, everything you type after will automatically be double-spaced. To stop double-spacing, change it back to “Single.”

So you can keep track of any edits, comments and corrections.

20 Terrible Maps To Make You Laugh and Leave You Speechless

The best of the worst to get you nowhere.

We understand the world and our position in it through maps. But what happens when maps go terribly wrong…we’re talking hilariously wrong? Well, it means that our idea of things might also be incredibly misguided.

We’ve researched the most inaccurate, terrible, bad head-scratchers of maps and had a lot of fun doing it. It’s fascinating to see how our perception of the world evolved, as cartographers found new and innovative methods to perfect map making.

Our list includes everything from inaccurate ancient maps to pointless contemporary maps. We’ve excluded from this list novelty maps made for just laughs. We wanted to find maps that actually missed that mark…like really missed the mark.

Enjoy!

One thing to note on the map is the marking for the “Columns of Hercules.” The Columns of Hercules (now referred to as the Rock of Gibraltar) marked the entrance to the straight of Gibraltar, separating Europe and Africa. This shows how ancient explorers would use geographical landmarks for navigation and a sense of a place’s geography.

Hollow Earth Theory MapHollow Earth Theory Map

It wasn’t that long ago that scientists still defended the theory that the Earth was actually a hollow object with vast caverns of mystical creatures. Oh, science! It’s one of the more fascinating mistakes, based in part on erroneous data taken from volcanoes and theories of cave structures extending all the way to the center of the Earth. The view took hold in the scientific community in the 18th century and continued until the mid-19th century. The US even commissioned an official expedition to try to explore the regions inside the Earth.

What lives in the hollow Earth?

The stories of what took place inside of the hollow parts of the Earth are many and really, really wild. Some stories involve massive giants that throw up the fire in the form of lava. Other reports speak about living, speaking trees who water human savages the way we water plants. And then there’s the creature above…whatever that thing is!

When early explorers found that their compasses always pointed toward the North Pole, they assumed that there must be a giant magnetic land mass there. Sounds reasonable, right? Save Money While Shopping Online With a VPN

Shop without putting your IP address on full blast.
AshAsh Ash (362)

Shopping online comes with its own risks and rewards but you can take control of the experience by using a VPN. Using a VPN will add an extra layer of security and sometimes give you access to location-locked storefronts.

What is a VPN?

VPN stands for “virtual private network”. VPNs are accessible through the internet to only pre-approved users. The virtual network allows those connected to communicate as though they were sharing a local network connection.

VPNs also obscure your actual IP address with one from the VPN—this is what many shoppers want when looking for a VPN so we’ll cover this process below.

How do I use a VPN while shopping?

In this guide, we’ll not only cover how to set up a VPN for shopping but also cover ways you can use it when shopping. They can help not just add security but allow access to any region-locked shopfronts. The way you decide to use your VPN service while shopping ultimately depends on what your needs are.

VPNs do much more than hide your IP address, they change how you’re able to interact with the world of online shopping. By taking control of your presence online, you can access a range of shopfronts and add more security to your shopping experience. Here are a few examples of how a VPN can make a difference:

  • Travel – Prices offered by some travel-based websites for things like hotels, car rentals, and plane tickets will occasionally be cheaper depending on where the shopper is physically located. Changing your IP address can open up access to any regional discounts that would otherwise be locked by your current location.
  • Online Shopping – Online retailers will sometimes offer discounts to customers based on their location. Changing your IP address with a VPN will give you access to any region-based prices.
  • Security – Shopping online can be dangerous if you aren’t careful. Using a VPN will both hide your IP address and can encrypt your traffic to obscure your personal information from any would-be hackers.
VPN ServiceVPN Service

Choose a VPN service

First, we need a VPN server to connect to. You’ll need to research what provider you want to ultimately go with. Paid services tend to be the most reliable. Here are some questions to ask before choosing a VPN service.

  • How much are the service fees?
  • Is there a limit to how many devices I can use?
  • What features does the service provide?
  • Is the service compatible across multiple platforms?

If you’re not sure where to start, check out NordVPN. We’ve had the chance to review their services ourselves and know it’s capable for the purposes of this guide.

Set up your VPN service

Once you choose a platform, you’ll need to set up a VPN connection. The exact details of this process will vary depending on the VPN provider you’re using.

But in most cases, you’ll need to:

  1. Install the VPN client
  2. Create an account
  3. Choose a VPN server to connect to.

If given many options, consider the location of the server you connect to as this will be the location your machine registers as while browsing.

Connect to a VPN server

Determine the best server to connect to. Some factors to consider would be region, connection strength, and availability.

Once you choose a server connect to it and wait for confirmation that the connection has been established.

Start shopping

Now when you access online stores, your IP address will be obscured and your location will be detected by websites as your VPN server location. Changing locations is as easy as changing servers.

When you’re ready, load up an online store and get to shopping! There are several different ways you could go about using your VPN when shopping. We’ll throw in a few extra tips on how to make the most of your VPN service while shopping.

Using a VPN will encrypt your network traffic and obscure your IP address while shopping. This adds an extra layer of security while you browse through various stores. Before you connect to your VPN, double-check your current IP address. If you’re not sure how to find it, check out our guide on how to find your IP address on Windows 10. Take note of your current IP, we’ll need it to make sure the VPN is working.

Using step 2 above, connect to your VPN service and log in to a server. When the service confirms you have established a connection, check to see if your IP address has changed.

If the IP is in fact new, then you know for sure the VPN is working and it’s safe for you to shop.

Shopping internationally requires using a specific VPN server location to access the region-locked storefront you want to shop from. First, determine where the website needs you to be located in order to browse.

Once you know the required region, open your VPN service. Using step 2 above, connect to a VPN server. Make sure it’s listed in the location you need to be in order to access the store.

Access the international website or refresh the page once the VPN server connection has been established. The website should now recognize you as being located in the appropriate region to view the store.

Some websites will change prices for visitors either randomly or based on location. This is due to marketing strategies where things like split testing is used to see how different groups respond to different prices. If you want to try poking around for cheaper prices, hopping onto a VPN will trick these websites into treating you like a brand new customer.

  1. Take note of prices on specific items you want to buy. Copy the product URL.
  2. Using steps 1 – 3 above, connect to a VPN server.
  3. Try accessing the product pages using the URLs you documented from before and see if the price has changed.

If the prices aren’t changing, you can always try switching to a VPN server at a different location. However, if the price stays consistent, it may not be split and a VPN won’t change anything.

It’s common for travel-based vendors to list different prices based on the location of the person searching for things like hotels, flights, and other travel accommodations. If you want to try finding a better deal, shopping with a VPN might help.

  1. Look up travel offers and take note of the prices before you access the VPN. You’ll need a baseline to see whether or not the VPN is making a difference on the prices you’re seeing.
  2. Using step 2 above, access a VPN server.
  3. Access the website again to see if the travel prices have changed. If they haven’t, you can disconnect from your current server and try another one.

Using a VPN isn’t always a guaranteed method of finding alternative prices, but it is a useful trick to have up your sleeve that can sometimes save you money in a pinch.

It takes just a little bit of detective work to find out how to create a hanging indent in Google Docs. Luckily for you, we’ve saved you the time by showing you how to set up and use the hanging indent in Google Docs.

What is a hanging indent?

A hanging indent is when the next line of a paragraph receives an indent, while the first line remains flush with the left side of the page. For example:

This would be the first line that you are trying to type. The second line is indented like this. And even the third.

It’s rare when you need to use a hanging indent in Google Docs, but there are cases.

When to use a hanging indent?

Most often, you’ll use a hanging indent when you’re creating a bibliography or works cited page at the end of an essay or research paper. The sources you list in your bibliography will be in hanging indents and alphabetically listed. The standard hanging indent is 1/2 inch.

To change back to no indent

If you no longer need to use a hanging indent in a Google Doc, you’ll simply go back to Indentation options, change “Hanging” to “None”, and select Apply.
